Buying low is the cheapest way to get better in fantasy hockey, and early in the season it is also the easiest to get wrong. In Episode 117 we walked through ten buy-low targets. Sidney Crosby, Mika Zibanejad and Will Smith are three of them.
The idea is simple. A slow stretch from a proven scorer lowers his price in a trade, while the role that produced his numbers has not changed. Before you send an offer, check three things: is he still on the power play, is his ice time where it was, and is he still getting shots. If the answers are yes, the points are a matter of time.
Crosby and Zibanejad carry long track records, which is what makes them safer to buy into. Smith is a younger player with the talent to climb back up the rankings. Make your offers while your league is still looking at the early numbers. The other seven names, and the six goalies we like if your net is a problem, are in Episode 117.

The Panic Room is our check on stars who have started badly. The question is always the same: how worried should you be about the rest of their season? In Episode 117 it was JT Miller and Chris Kreider.
A bad start only matters if something underneath has changed. We look at where the player is lining up, whether he still has power play time, how many shots he is taking, and whether the team around him is scoring. A cold stretch with the same role and the same volume is noise. A drop in minutes or a move down the lineup is a warning.
That is the test for Miller and Kreider. Our verdicts, and the other slow starters we looked at, are in Episode 117, so listen before you hit the drop button.

Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg have been a regular topic on the show since training camp. In Episode 111 we talked about when to take elite prospects over safe veterans in dynasty startups, and in Episode 115 we checked in on their early returns.
The case for taking them is upside. Players like this can anchor a dynasty roster for years, and their price only goes up once they produce. The case against is patience: a rookie can cost you points this season, and roster spots are limited.
A fair rule of thumb: if your team is built to win now, lean on veterans and use a prospect as bench upside. If you are building for the long haul, take the prospect. The full discussion is in Episodes 111 and 115.

Co-host and analyst. Ant lives in the numbers and the matchups, and he finds the waiver adds, buy-low trades and sell-high windows before the rest of your league has noticed them.
Ex-player and co-host. Ben has lived the game from the inside, and it shows in how he reads a slump, a line change or a coach who is about to bench your guy. He is the one who tells you what the box score will not.
